Designed by Gastone Rinaldi in 1950 for Rima, the Du 10 chair represents one of the earliest and most significant results of the collaboration between the Paduan designer and Gio Ponti. The model achieved widespread international visibility, being presented at the 9th Milan Triennale in 1951 in the sections dedicated to Hospital Architecture and Hospitality.

Technical and Formal Profile

The chair is characterized by an essential structure in iron rod, offered in chrome-plated or fire-lacquered variations. The seat and backrest are made of pressed beech plywood, finished with nitrocellulose lacquer or polished, or otherwise covered with a light foam rubber padding lined in cloth or plastic fabric.

Innovation and Research

The element of greatest innovation lies in the assembly system: the shells are attached to the metal structure by means of rubber suction cup elements, the subject of a specific Rima patent. This solution not only facilitates assembly but also acts as a shock absorber, giving elasticity and comfort to the seat.

Under Ponti's supervision, Du 10 – originally created with four legs – underwent a subsequent evolution to three supports. The project is also distinguished by a strong chromatic sensitivity, often expressed through the two-tone seat-backrest combination (as in the models with a black seat and yellow backrest), defining a modern language capable of integrating industrial rigor and aesthetic value.
